Over the past 3 years, the week long Lakme India Fashion Week event has proven to be India`s largest and most high profile fashion trade event where designers from across the country present their prêt lines to an estimated 15,000 visitors. The Lakme India Fashion Week (LIFW), 2003 was the fourth consecutive fashion week launched by FDCI in its increasing quest to take Indian fashion to international markets.
The Lakme India Fashion Week 2003, held in Mumbai from 18th July to 24 July at the NCPA, Mumbai was a great success and showcased a one-of-a-kind designer collection unlike individual couture fashion shows. LIFW this year continued to focus on the business of fashion with the main objective of creating trade opportunities between designers and trade-buyers. This year`s theme was watercolors and the weeklong extravaganza of hues of varying colours, fashion and glamour ended on a high note.
Leading designers showcased their collections, which were brought to life by 48 leading Indian Models. The models, working in three groups, displayed the Prêt (ready-to-wear) and Diffusion (a line between ready-to-wear and couture) lines at the country`s largest event of the fashion design industry. This year the event had taken on a more "serious business" orientation and had focused on expanding the customer base and grow the Indian Fashion industry globally.
The designers who showcased their collection through fashion shows and stalls were Arjun Khanna, Ashish Soni, Deepika Govind, Hemant Trevedi, JJ Valaya, Krishna.Mehta, Malini Ramani, Monisha Jaising, Raghavendra Rathore, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Ranna Gill, Rina Dhaka,Ritu Kumar, Rocky S, Rohit Bal, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Satya Paul, Shobna & Vijay Arora, Sonam Dubal,Tarana Rajpal,Tarun Tahiliani and Wendell Rodricks.
More than 45 models sashayed through the ramp. There was a presence of Sheetal Mallar, Jesse Randhawa, Fleur Xavier, Cleo Isaacs, Vidisha Pavate, Nina Manuel, Viveka Babajee, Tupur Chaterjee, Tapur Chaterjee, Shivani Kapoor, and Diandra Soares among the female models to name a few.
Among the male models there was the presence of the famous models like Tarun Arora, shawar Ali, Shayan Munshi, Rajneesh Duggal, Murtaza Maulvi and Acquin Pais.
