Be it a fashion show of some established designer or a women`s western wear retail brand, all of them leave most women with this one question unanswered, "Why do they design clothes that we can`t wear?" This is exactly what Nisha Somaia of Revolution thought when she went ahead and dared to make her dream come true-designing exclusive clothes for women who don`t look like they have been running away from food all their life! Most women get disappointed with designer garments in western wear only because they are unable to find a size that would not only fit them but also compli-ment their body size. It`s common to find exclusive western wear for thin girls but the potential market lies in designing clothes for women in regular and larger sizes.
It was this realization and the urge to bring about a revolution in the Indian fash-ion market that motivated Nisha and Pranay Somaia to start `Revolution` - the brand by which the couple retail their designer clothes in western wear. The concept was self-inspired, being a larger size myself, I realized how much we are ignored in the western wear sector in this market Working in sync with European style forecasts and predictions, the sizing starts from size -2 through to size 4," says Nisha. Revolution can well be termed as the pio-neer in our country to design plus-size clothing for women. With more than one hundred styles to choose from per season and sizes varying from waist size 28" up to a size 44", this definitely is a store which has a lot more in store for women!
The couple promise to dress women who have been so far hiding in badly fitted sal-war suits or their husband`s over-sized shirts. The collection covers clothes for all occasions - casual lounge wear, denims, formal wear and evening party wear with a wide range of styles in at least three col-ors and seven sizes each. The big success story started with a small shop in Shahpurjat in New Delhi and eventually rose to eight showrooms in India, three showrooms in Mumbai three in Delhi, one in and one in Bangalore.
Revolution has all plans to move to other metros in India as well. Both Nisha and Pranay Somaia have rich experience in exports and retailing. In fact apart from the couple the other two promoters of this brand, Jacqueline Meston and Laxmi Shah also have vast experience in this industry. The brand provides both basic and fashion garments in realistic and practical sizes for women of all ages covering the fashion needs of every woman.
The Favorites at Revolution are Pin Tucks-featured in many ways. There are stretch jeans with irregular length pin tucks at the base, linen shirts with diagonal as well vertical pin tucks, linen trousers with three horizontal pin tucks, well-fitted formal trousers with diag-onal pin tucks on the front leg, formal trousers with three pin tucks running down the front leg. The colors range from burgundy, military green, khaki to brighter ones like turquoise, red, pink, orange, lilac, etc. All in all, it stores chic collections with lace, rivets (eye-lets), military look, gathered harem pants and sleeves, drawstrings, cords, tabs, washed denims, pins tucks, frays, sheer, mirrors, layers, crochet, sequins, feminine prints, kimono sleeves, to name just a few.
This March, Revolution has launched its Spring Summer 2005 collection. The collection offers a chic and comprehensive range and a certain element of fashion can be seen in each garment. They conclude by commenting, "We do not promote women to be obese. We promote them to look good, no matter what their size is". Well, finally there`s someone who thought of designing clothes for people to wear and not just admire on the pages of some fashion magazine.
